How to Install The Sonic Horn
The official custom car horn install guide — Your Car…… Your Sound.
Just got your Sonic Horn? Nice. Installing this custom car horn takes about 20 minutes and you don't need to be a mechanic — if you can connect a set of jumper cables and drag a file onto a USB stick, you've got this. This guide walks you through the lot: loading your sounds, mounting the horn, wiring it to 12V, pairing the remote, and testing it. Let's get you honking.
Difficulty: easy, no mechanic needed
You'll need: the horn, the included USB cable, a Windows or Mac computer, your MP3/WAV sounds, and something to mount with (zip ties, screws or adhesive)
Step 1: Load Your Sounds
Plug the horn into your computer with the included USB cable. It shows up just like a USB flash drive — open it and drag your sound files on.
Naming matters. Name each file starting with a number, then a hyphen, then the name — like 1-DixieHorn.mp3, 2-AirHorn.mp3. The number decides which remote button plays it: 1 = A, 2 = B, 3 = C, 4 = D. Keep them in order and don't skip numbers.
Format. Files must be MP3 or WAV. If yours isn't, a free tool like CloudConvert or Audacity will convert it in seconds.
Tips. Keep each sound under 1MB, shorter clips feel snappier, and you can load a maximum of four. Need sounds to start with? Grab free ones from our Sound Clips library.
When you're done, safely eject the drive from your computer.
Step 2: Mount The Horn
Position is everything — you want clear sound projection with nothing muffling it. Good spots:
- Behind the grille (but not behind thick plastic)
- In the engine bay near the front, somewhere dry and secure
- Inside a wheel arch or underbody panel if you drive a truck or 4x4
Fix it down with zip ties, screws or adhesive so it can't rattle loose, and point the opening outward or slightly downward so the sound carries.
Step 3: Connect Power
The Sonic Horn runs on 12V DC, the same as your car battery. Two wires:
- Red wire → 12V positive. Straight to the battery (+), a fuse tap for ignition-switched power, or a spare accessory (ACC) wire.
- Black wire → ground. The battery negative (-), or any clean bare-metal chassis bolt.
Cheap insurance: pop an inline fuse on the positive wire if you can. It protects your wiring if anything ever shorts.
Step 4: Pair The Remote
- Turn the horn OFF.
- Press and hold any button (A, B, C or D).
- While still holding, turn the horn ON.
- Keep holding for about 5 seconds until the horn beeps.
- Release the button. Paired.
There's no separate pairing button — any of the four works. The horn must be off before you start, and if you don't hear a beep, just run through it again.
Step 5: Test It
Hit each button and let it rip. Every sound should play instantly. If one doesn't, double-check that file's name and format — it's almost always a naming slip.
Troubleshooting
My files aren't playing at all.
Make sure they're actually .mp3 or .wav, not something like .mp3.txt or .mp3.m4a hiding behind the name. Check for typos in the file names too, and that each one starts with a number (1 to 4).
The horn doesn't show up on my computer.
Try a different USB port or cable first. If it still won't appear, get in touch and we'll sort it out.
My remote won't pair.
Reset the horn by holding any button for 10 seconds, make sure it's powered, then run through the pairing steps again.
