How to Install The Sonic Horn (Novelty Car Horn) – The Official Tech Guide

Step 1: Load Your Sounds onto The Sonic Horn

You’ll need:

  • The Sonic Horn unit

  • USB cable (included)

  • A laptop or desktop computer (Windows or Mac)

  • MP3 sound files (don’t worry, we’ll explain everything)

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Plug The Sonic Horn into your computer using the provided USB cable.

  2. Your computer will recognize it as a USB flash drive—open that drive.

  3. You’ll see a folder (or the root directory). This is where you’ll drag your sound files.

IMPORTANT: File Format Matters

  • Files must be MP3 or WAV. If you’re not sure, right-click the file and check “Properties” (Windows) or “Get Info” (Mac).

  • If your sound file isn’t an MP3, use a free converter like CloudConvert.com or Audacity to convert it.

File Naming Format:

  • You must label each file starting with a number, followed by a hyphen, then the name.

  • Example: 1-DixieHorn.mp3, 2-AirHorn.mp3, 3-MarioSound.mp3

  • The number determines which button on your remote will play that sound.

  • Don’t skip numbers. Keep them in order.

Tips:

  • Keep each sound under 1MB in size.

  • Shorter = snappier performance.

  • Max 4 sounds (1 through 4).

Once you’ve loaded your MP3s correctly and renamed them properly, eject the USB drive safely from your computer.

Step 2: Mount The Sonic Horn

Mounting position is everything. You want sound projection without obstruction.

Good spots:

  • Behind the grille (but not behind thick plastic)

  • In the engine bay near the front (as long as it’s dry and secure)

  • Inside a wheel arch or underbody panel (if you drive a truck or 4x4)

Secure it with zip ties, screws, or adhesive. Just make sure it won’t rattle loose.

Step 3: Connect Power

The Sonic Horn works on 12V DC (same as your car battery). Here’s how to wire it:

  • Red wire: Connect to a 12V positive source. This can be:

    • Directly to the car battery (+)

    • A fuse tap (for ignition-switched power)

    • A spare ACC wire

  • Black wire: Connect to ground. That can be:

    • Any bare metal bolt or chassis ground

    • The battery negative terminal (-)

Step 4: Pair the Remote

Once your horn is powered up:

  1. Hold the small pairing button on the horn unit for ~3 seconds until you hear a beep.

  2. Press the button on the remote you want to assign to Sound #1. You'll hear a confirm beep.

  3. Repeat with other buttons to assign other sound slots (Sound #2, #3, etc.).

Remote is now synced. If pairing fails, reset the horn by holding the button for 10 seconds and try again.

Step 5: Test and Fine-Tune

Hit the buttons and let it rip. You should hear each sound instantly.

  • If a sound doesn’t play, double-check the file name and format.

Troubleshooting FAQ

Q: My files aren’t playing at all.

Make sure they’re .mp3, not .mp3.txt or .mp3.m4a. Also, check for typos in the file names.

Q: I don’t see the horn show up on my computer.

Try a different USB port or cable. If it still doesn’t show, contact support.

Q: My remote won’t pair.

Reset the horn (hold button 10 seconds), then try again. Make sure horn is powered.
